Malaysian mix

Helo,

Malaysia is another Asian country with a beautiful, tasty cuisine. For this country we decided to cook char kway teow, a seafood stirfry dish.

While we used rice noodles, the noodles used were of the long variety as opposed to the wide variety. According to a friend of Malaysian decent, the rice noodles we used made it more authentic to the recipe. In addition, due to the difficulty in locating fish cakes we decided to use some actual basa fillets as a substitute.

The dish was very nice, it was a bit spicy but still bearable for me.

Malawi with mango

Hello,

This African country has one of the most delicious recipes on the continent, although I did tweak it by leaving peanuts off, peanuts aren’t really braces friendly.

I cooked a mango chicken dish which has boiled chicken shredded, marinated in pineapple and honey soy sauce and cooked with mango and capsicum. The dish was served on a bed of rice.

Madagascar, three meats

Bonjour

This dish called Romazava, consists of three meats, pork, chicken and beef. The meats were slow cooked in water with garlic, ginger, tomatoes and other spices.

Spinach was added to the dish and it was served hot. I really liked the flavours that came out.

Macedonia, hot, hot, hot

Здраво

For this country we decided to cook their most famous food, TavčeGravče.

The dish consisted of sundried tomatoes, beans, mince and other spices served with bread.

The dish reminded me of Mexican cuisine, probably because of the tomato base.

Luxemburg, boiled pork with butter beans

Guten tag,

Luxemburg is one of the smallest countries in Europe. The cuisine is similar to Germany, France and Belgium.

We decided to cook their national dish, Judd mat Gaardenbounen which is essentially boiled pork and veggies. The veggies contained butter beans with a nice sauce.

The pork had a hint of the wine flavour but wasn’t anything special however I really enjoyed the butter beans in a butter, broth and flour sauce with savoury seasoning.

Lithuania, a taste of home

Labas

This Baltic state is known for cuisine similar to that of Poland or Ukraine, according to Wikipedia, the Soviet occupation badly damaged Lithuanian cuisine however the citizens maintained garden plots through the Soviet era.

We decided to cook Kugela, essentially a potato based quiche, in fact, the meal reminded me a lot of my mother’s quiche!

Liechtenstein, deer me!

Guten tag,

Liechtenstein is a small country in Europe where we decided to have our first taste of deer, pepper venison with Käsknöpfle. The meat in itself was an experience with numerous visits to various butchers and supermarkets before finally locating it at the Prahan markets in Melbourne, at $39.99 a kilogram it isn’t all that cheap but still over a 40% discount to lobster.

The deer was marinated in fruit vinegar, red wine and other spices for almost a week. It was then boiled in wine with various spices.

The Käsknöpfle was made with a mix akin to dumplings, we made the balls a bit too large and so it did not turn out as expected.

The deer was extremely soft and tender however some of the flavour was lost in the overpowering taste of vinegar and wine.

Auf Wiedersehen
