Bosnia and Herzegovina

It has been a while since we had last cooked as I have been away for a week. It may be difficult to complete the journey in 18 months but it is still possible.

Bosnia and Herzegovina is a place I had never heard of, an east European country directly across the east coast of Italy, north of Albania. It has Eastern and Western influences in its cooking.

Bec made Cevapi to represent the country, it tasted quite Arabic but seemed a touch bland.

Bolivia with a bite

Hola,

Bolivia! It has always appealed to me since hearing from my aunty and uncle about their travels there. A mountainous country known for their llamas the country does have interesting cuisine. My aunt and uncle ate guniea pig and also had a photo of a roasted pigs head with the typical apple in the mouth.

However, I wasn’t going to be that adventurous. I don’t think walking into the pet shop to ask for two plump guniea pigs, preferably about 500 grams worth, would have ended well. In any case, the recipe was Guisode Carne, a soupy stew, or maybe a stewy soup. Never the less, the recipe may contain some tainted influences as it contains pasta. I doubt that an authentic recipe would contain pasta since Italy is quite some way from Bolivia.

In any case, the result was a nice soup with a bite. It was hot and accompanied with a lot of water but quite tasty.

Adios

Bhutan

The kingdom of Bhutan is situated on the eastern end of the Himalayas. Its official language, Dzongkhak isn’t even on Google Translate.

The country’s cuisine is influenced by its neighbours and Jasha Maroo was selected as the recipe.

Unfortunately, the recipe isn’t good with no details on when to add the tomato. Nor was ginger mentioned in the ingredient list.

Never the less, the meal was beautiful. I think Bhutan would be a place to visit.

Brief Benin

Bonjour, Benin is a squeezed in country that looks somewhat like a rectangle. It was a former French colony and so the cooking has a French influence.

It was an extremely easy and quick meal to cook tonight. I made Akkra Funfun which has a pretty fun name to be honest. Akkra Funfun tasted how I imagine African food to taste, a mixture of spices and beans.

In eating, Akkra Funfun wasn’t all that fun. Maybe I am just too much of a carnivore!

Belize

Hi, Belize is a country squeezed into Central America. To represent this country I cooked Stewed Chicken with Red Bean and Coconut Rice.

There was a lot of thyme used in this recipe and the meal was great.

There is nothing much to say except I would make it again.

Beer and Belgium

Belgium is a country that seems to be a bit of a mixing pot with three official languages so I didn’t know which one to use for my opening.

One highlight for this meal was the search for Belgium beer, it was easy enough to find but hard enough to make it fun. Bec cooked this meal of Carbonnade Beef and Beer Stew served on steamed potatoes so I don’t have much to say about the cooking experience.

In one word though, delicious.
